do you use direct references for the majority of your paintings?

Certainly. I can't work any other way! I sometimes combine photos but more often than not I will have one main reference photo for my subject, and will pretty much copy it (although I may change the colours and background). I don't do nearly as well without references!

I was just wondering. I find the same thing. I used to paint mostly without references, then I began to use them a ton and I found it so much easier! :D

:nod: The way I see it, if you want to achieve any degree of realism, references are essential (and so is copying them to some extent, no matter how snobbish people can be about that!)
